Christian Faith and AI
Interested in discussing AI and God? It’s one of my favorite topics. Recently the Institute for Faith, Work & Economics published two articles I wrote on “Is AI Going to Take My Job? A Christian Response to Technological Disruption” and “How AI Can Improve Our Stewardship.” (“Stewardship” in the Christian theological context means doing our job well. “Job” meaning our family jobs, for-pay jobs, and being a human being on this earth. Among other things). Anyway, I enjoy writing and talking about these kinds of ideas.
The first post combines economic, tech, historical, and theological thoughts and the second post is a combination of theological, historical, and practical. Lately I’ve found myself in conversations with folks just looking for practical tips on how to use AI tools. Admittedly it’s tough to know where to start and can feel even harder to keep up. Hopefully that section is of help to you! If you’re looking for more, the excellent Ethan Mollick’s recent newsletter could also be quite useful.
DC Events Next Week!
Getting practical again, for those in (and out of) town, don’t miss two events next Monday on how to use AI in public policy work. The first event will feature Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) and co-chair of the Republican Study Committee Emerging Tech Task Force in conversation about how AI can be useful for policy staff on Capitol Hill. As you likely know, she herself is a former staffer so will bring a top to bottom perspective on the ways new and old tech can help us policy folks do our jobs better. This one is Monday July 21, 11 AM to 12 PM ET, lunch is served. Details and registration here.
The next event is a reception but also Monday July 21, this time 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM ET at the Freedom Embassy on Capitol Hill. There will be some brief remarks and plenty of time to mix and mingle, perhaps trying out some new tech. Details and registration here.
At both you’ll also get to hear more about our new AI policy chatbot, Alpaca, trained on GAO, CRS, and CBO reports. It produces short policy memos and includes citations. It’s pretty amazing. Turn up to learn more!
New Videos
I’ll say it again: subscribe to our YouTube channel. In the last month we’ve released two great shorts about Hermeus, a supersonic jet company, and director Jason Carman on why we need better stories about the future. Don’t just read papers; watch videos.
ALEC in Indianapolis?
I’ll be there speaking, networking, working with folks on good pro-innovation state tech policy ideas. If you’re there too let me know!
